Minimalistic Yet Tanky

I’ve had my ASP build for over a year, so I figure now’s a good time to give my take on each piece. Aesthetically, I couldn’t be happier with this design. There are however, a few suboptimal aspects of the product I received. First was a minor quality control problem I anticipated, there were several “hot spots” where the edges were too sharp for my tastes. Not a huge issue since I got a weathered finish and was able to correct without compromising the look, but still a factor. Next was the set screws for the cross guard. I found the location (pommel facing about halfway down the quillon) problematic for switching out the factory ones for a couple that could be turned by hand as can be found on Etsy and such. This is simply a pet peeve so I don’t believe it’ll be an issue for most. Lastly, I just don’t think the sockets are deep enough, especially for the main blade. I believe it’s about an inch deep for the main blade with the set screw being a quarter of the way from the bottom. Not sure if deepening would be possible, given the goal for the look, but at the very least the set screw could’ve been set higher in my opinion. Now for what I think they got right with this piece. Aesthetics and ergonomics are beautiful. It’s on the hefty side as far as ASP goes, but not to the point where it’s uncomfortable. The lines and curves all just work so well together, and the bottom portion is a couple inches long so I’m able to my pointer, middle, and thumb comfortably set, giving me plenty of room for the rest of the design. The cross guard is a beautiful marriage of form and function as is, with support where it needs it while maintaining the look. Lastly, the whole design is quite durable. I learned this through my kids mainly. Overall, I’d say this is a wonderful piece and the only areas where this suffers is a couple of my pet peeves and if someone wanted to use this for TSL, I’m not sure how well it would hold up. Still an excellent pick for the casual fan/practitioner and definitely worthy of the four stars. God bless, hope this was helpful, and may the Force be with you.

Asp saber did not disappoint

Holly cow. Just received my asp saber assembled and ready to go and this thing is better than I thought it would be. The wait was like 4 months which is actually really good for a custom saber no matter who you go through. The way they understood with no instruction how I wanted it all lined up and the quality of the parts earns this bad boy 5 stars. The thing is a beast and I’ll be holding onto it forever as it is my custom saber made exactly how I wanted it. Our saber blades (Excluding Pixel blades) are rated for full contact dueling. Capable of withstanding heavy dueling, even against kendo bokkens, and nylon hema wasters. During the machining process, some sabers may develop sharp edges. Before any contact dueling (as with any type of dueling), we recommend wearing proper safety protection for your hands, body and face. This includes but is not limited to: gloves, body armor, face masks, and helmets. Always take the proper safety measures before dueling of any kind.
